Stuff of Life community festival
Stuff of Life is our annual community festival, now in its fourth year, that brings several hundred people to our very special corner of Nottingham. This year it’s on Saturday 9th October 2010. The theme of the event is bread – the basic foodstuff that is common to every community in different forms – celebrating the area’s history of commercial baking.
It takes place in Hedley Park, Hedley Street (off Beech Avenue) in Sherwood Rise and surrounding streets. There’s a live music stage, local artists and craftspeople exhibiting their wares (for sale), children’s activities, food stalls (inc. veg, vegan, Asian), a garden cafe, a bread baking competition (of course) and a noisy procession around the streets led by a samba band. The Park is overlooked by a building that used to bake pyclets, a local speciality, and the owners used to distribute bags of these to neighbours every week.
It’s not to be missed and has a great atmosphere. All newcomers comment on how delightful the area is and how friendly all the neighbours are – we’re one of the friendliest neighbourhoods in Nottingham and proud of our strong community spirit.
