Mayday picnic

Turf mission accomplished & May Day picnic!

The top rectangle in Hedley Villas has been rotavated, rolled, levelled, de stoned, and levelled again, and laid with new turf, stamped on and taped off.
A great session on a sunny day last Saturday.
A big thank you to everyone involved..
We now have a harder job – of keeping kids off it until the roots have settled in. If you see anyone stepping over the red and white tape.can you explain why they should get off?…thanks to Farida and Faheen for their great ‘keep off’ poster. More welcome…they will be laminated asap and put close to the area..
Also, thanks to Mark and neighbour for taking on the watering over the next few weeks, which is crucial if it does not rain much..
See you at the May Day picnic on the Bank Holiday Monday which is the 3rd of May, Bring food and sunshine..

Calling all locals! re turfing the rectangle in top part of Hedley Villas Park

Hi All
Time to beautify one of our favourite places!
As you know we have funding for this and some new plants.. (two fruit trees already in – courtesy of Forest Fields Orchard scheme)
We have got to do this asap as football season will start soon and new turf (lain not sown) needs two weeks to bed in.
Sue and I suggest Saturday 10 April 10 – 2. If there are enough of us, it won’t take long.
What it involves – digging and levelling area, removing  topsoil and replacing with thin layer of compost. Rolling out turf and ‘fencing’.
Hope to see you there
Kate

Campaign for cobbles!

Forest Fields used to be completely cobbled ( a lot of them are still there under the tarmac) and part of Sherwood Rise, is still cobbled.. giving an idea of its history..
About ten years ago, two streets bordering Hedley Villas Park were dug up by Severn Trent Water and a wide line of  cobbles were replaced by tarmac.
Sherwood Rise Residents Association are taking on their first heritage restoration project.  Training will be provided on Saturday 1 May and is open to all locals. One resident has opened the campaign fund by donating £200 which will provide us with about 400 cobbles – enough for a sizeable patch on the junction between Hedley Street and Shaftesbury St. We hope that locals will contribute what they can financially to bring back the original beauty of the area around the Park, and come and help with the laying of the cobbles.

Yes it’s six days until the SRRA committee meeting and quiz

Missing Cat

My cat Aimee has been missing since Friday night. She is very nosey and has a habbit of wandering in to other peoples houses so could be trapped in a house/garage/shed. Aimee’s normally stays around Hedley Street/Shaftesbury Street. Aimee is black, quite skinny and small with a black and red collar on (also a magnetic fob for the cat flap). Aimee is 17 years old which is why I am really concerned for her. She is very friendly and quite often flirts with strangers so may be getting fed by someone.

There is a reward for any information leading to Aimee being found. Please contact Hana on 0780 806 8292 or 9588899.
