Festival Fundraiser hauls in the cash!

Many thanks to friends and neighbours who basked in the lucky September sun last Sunday afternoon. A range of different activities for kids and adults at Bar Deux helped us raise £317 overall, which exceeded expectations and means that the Stuff of Life 2010 can now definitely go ahead as planned on Saturday 9th October in Hedley Park. Get it in your diary!

The next Festival planning meeting is on Thursday 9th September at Bar Deux, all welcome.

2-6pm at Bar Deux, Sun. 9th Sept – fun and fundraising activities for families, all welcome. Includes BBQ (veg and non-veg), cakes, face painting, henna hands, parachute games, drama workshop, vintage pot sales and drinks from the bar.

Hey all

Hope you have all got your teams ready for Wednesday’s Quiz night. In addition to the quiz we will be having a raffle to raise additional funds towards this year’s stuff of life community festival. Current prizes include:

1 cake
1 meat voucher
1 bandai interactive DVD children’s bubble console
1 goodie bag from a bombay sapphire employee ( could be anything!)

surely this is enough to get your interest and remember it’s beer vouchers for the winning quiz team!

The first Stuff of Life planning meeting is Wednesday 26 May at 8.00pm at Bar Deux. This will be followed by a quiz at 9.00 / 9.30pm. All proceeds to the festival fund.

We would also like to hold a raffle so any donations of prizes would be gratefully received!

Vintage pot sale – over £175 raised and counting!

Thanks to all who came and are still coming to buy pots. It rained and rained (nice touch being for Water Aid!) but it was very satisfying. Thanks to Mike & Ange for opening the cafe and for those few hardy customers and Jodi for delicious cake..

If anyone still wants some pots, there are about 100 left of all sizes, so get in touch..

Mayday celebrations a success despite the weather!

Thanks to all those who came to our Mayday celebrations. Despite the weather a good time was had by all. We all enjoyed a performance by The Rise choir which included the Mayday classic ‘Summer is a cummin’ in’. Here are a couple of photos of the Maypole dancing. Thanks to Angela for borrowing the Maypole and to Chris for the musical accompaniment.

Cobbling postponed

Get involved in the latest campaign – for cobbles!

Dear All

We need you!

On Saturday 1 May come and join in a cobbling session.
Watch and learn so we can do the rest of the area ourselves, have some
refreshments (all proceeds to the Stuff of Life festival) and see
part of the heritage of Sherwood Rise being restored! This is also the
date when we will remove tape from our new piece of turf in Hedley
Villas Park, so we can enjoy that too..

Meet at Hedley Villas Park at 11.00am.

On Monday 3 May, come along for a May Day Picnic. This year there will
be a May Pole, with dancing.. get involved.
